Poker: Win or Lose

I love poker, win or lose. I know what other poker players would think of me, they would think that I am crazy or throwing away money. They would think that I do not give a damn about losing money in poker. On the contrary, I am not any of these things, and many expert poker players will support me on this.

Not all the fun in poker lies on winning. I don’t believe that I can be totally happy when I win all the time. Winning every game only means that there is no one who could challenge my poker skills anymore. Where is the fun in that? I play poker because it is challenging. It is fun for me to be challenged and I love the thrills and surprises that poker brings. If it comes to the point that I always win, then poker does not serve any purpose to me anymore. There is no longer the excitement of finding out who is better, because it will always be me. When this time comes, I am sure I will be looking for another source of excitement and try out a different game. I will say goodbye to poker then.

Losing is very frustrating. Some losses in poker can even haunt you in your dreams. That is why it is a far greater challenge in poker to accept a loss. Only the graceful poker players can do this. Others are very proud to accept their losses. But isn’t it a shame to know how to win but not know how to accept defeat?

The acknowledgement that someone can beat you is truly a painful task that I think I’ve learned to do it, and I feel great each time I acknowledge the superiority of another poker player. I feel that by accepting that I still have to make some improvements on my poker skills, I have started to improve. I believe that those who are so full of themselves, who refuse to see that they need to improve, will never improve in poker. At least I can say that I will improve and I can be a better poker player next time.

Remember, believing that you are the best poker player does not make you one. To be the best poker player, you have to prove to everybody that you are the best by playing poker. So, it is not enough to think that you are the best poker player, you need to improve your poker skills. To be able to do that, you first have to accept the fact that you are not perfect, that you need improvement, and that you can lose.
