Quotations in poker
I seem to can’t get enough of poker that I do not content myself with only watching poker movies, play poker with my friends and download online poker games on my computer, and also read poker magazines. I also have developed the habit of looking for poker quotations that I can memorize and use as principles in my poker career.
This one is from an unknown source, but I like it very much:
"You cannot play great poker if you are a kind-hearted person."
I laughed at this poker quotation and realized later on that what is so funny about this one is that it is true. Poker, it seems is a game of cold-hearted person. We have often heard that you should be emotionless when playing poker. A poker player must use his poker opponents’ weaknesses against them to be able to win, and this ability is rarely found in the kind-hearted people.
Nice people would never take advantage of others, that is why poker is not made for them. It does not mean that you have to be rude to be great in poker, but what I’m saying is you have to be aggressive and grab all the opportunities that you can get, even if it means taking advantage of the other players at the poker table. Bluffing in poker, is also a form of telling a lie, which is a very hard thing to do for the kind-hearted poker players. You must think like a heartless criminal to be able to hide from your opponents the reality that you are just bluffing.
The next poker quotation, although it sounds very funny like the first one, is very wrong in every way.
"Dear lord help me to break even I need money."
First of all, depending on the lord, and not on your self to win in poker is a mistake. It’s like counting on luck. You must have known now that luck has little to do in poker, so do not rely on it too much. Secondly, do not play poker unless you have extra money to do so – money apart from the ones you need for the necessities in life.
You also should not depend on poker to pay for your expenses. It is very risky, what if you lose? Then, you will be left with nothing. Set your priorities straight, so that you will be able to manage your money more wisely.
